Average Points per Race – CYC Sunset Series

The chart below shows the average points per race for the six top-scoring boats. For each boat, the points plotted for each race represent the average of that boat's race scores through that race, ignoring her worst scores (1 to 4 depending on year). For example, the points shown for 2009 race #6 are the average of the boat's best five scores through race #6 and the points shown for 2009 race #15 are the average of the boat's best 14 scores through race #15.

The current scoring system went into effect in 2002. In four of the eight years since then (2003, 2004, 2005 and 2006), the boat that was leading with three race scores wound up winning; and in two of the years since then (2007 and 2009), the boat that was 2nd wound up winning. In that respect, the 2008 season was very different from the other years since the winning boat was last of the top-six boats with three race scores.
